Athletics Memo 2020

Monday, November 16th, 2020

As the first season of our modified athletic program has come to an end, we would like to congratulate and thank all of our Volleyball, Cross Country and Football participants for a successful start to our Mustang sport specific training programs.

As we move forward with extra-curricular activities at Highwood High School, we are moving forward with grade level sport specific basketball training cohorts.  In accordance with recommendations from Alberta Education, Alberta Health Services and the Foothills School Division, students and coaches are required to take a 14 day break from any athletic cohort before the formation of a new one.  We are currently in the middle of our two week break, and basketball grade level interest meetings will be held at lunch starting on November 24th, 2020.  Students who are interested in participating in one of the basketball training cohorts are encouraged to sign-up using the following QR code and complete the corresponding google form.  If students cannot access the google form they can visit the PE office for further assistance.  Please ensure your student athlete is listening to the morning announcements for further meeting details starting next week.

Please note, that despite the information approved by the ASAA to belong to more than one athletic cohort, all FSD students are to remain in only one athletic team/group. Meaning, if they are currently participating in a community program or sport, they may not participate in our school programs.  This is to ensure the safety of all participants in our community and our school.

Lastly, the FSD has been consulted by AHS, and the most recent GoA restrictions do not impact School Division operations in regards to extracurricular sport specific training cohorts.  Therefore, we can proceed with extracurriculars as per the FSD Handbook guidelines – participation within existing classroom or grade level cohorts will remain.

Thank you for your continued support.

GO MUSTANGS!

Kindly,
